Washington, D.C. — Today, lawmakers, government officials, subject matter experts, and lived-experience leaders from around the world gathered at the U.S. Capitol for the ATIP Global Policy Summit, the sequel to the inaugural Global Leader Summit on Human Trafficking held at Central Hall Westminster in London in 2023.
This year’s Summit focused on the critical question: “How can governments impact the demand for human trafficking and exploitation?” Building on the 2023 theme of victim identification, participants examined the underlying driver of trafficking — demand — and worked to advance solutions that can be implemented globally.
During the event, leaders:
- Shared practical policy solutions to combat orphanage trafficking, child exploitation, organ harvesting, and labor exploitation.
- Equipped lawmakers with the tools, strategies, and networks needed to prioritize anti-trafficking reforms in their nations.
- Promoted transparent, high-level discussion, with each participant contributing to the ATIP Global Policy Summit Book.
The Summit was made possible through the support of partners: MasterWord, Kurt Gabriel, Street Grace (ATIP Policy Roundtable Host), Hope for Justice (ATIP Lunch Host), and 3Strands Global Foundation (ATIP Policy Dinner Host).
“Policy is the critical tool to empower law enforcement, prosecutors, and survivors,” said ITHT Chair Anne Basham. “The ATIP Global Policy Summit strengthens international cooperation to confront the demand for human trafficking and address exploitation at its root.”
